The uplift of a series of Aspect Schools across the Sydney region, including the original school in Forestville by Andrew Vern Barnett. The schools were brought in line with modern thinking for their students, including exposure to tactile play environments, opportunities to interact with nature and incorporation of soft, calming colour palettes, all tailored to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment.

The sites posed many challenges including fire zoning, undulating levels and nuances of retrofitting. Designs addressed integration of complex level changes throughout one of the sites, incorporating embankment slides, sandstone log terracing, water pump with adjustable flow path and accessible walkway connection.
Providing planting and exposure to natural materials was a key requirement from the client, although this posed a challenge to ensure planting was able to establish in such a harsh environment.
Working with the shade supplier and contractor it was possible to provide shade sails that retained light and airy spaces preferred by autistic students whilst providing a high level of ultraviolet protection.
